Khata

A municipal record of property for tax purposes.

A Khata is a record maintained by the local body (such as BBMP in Bangalore) identifying a property and its owner for property-tax assessment. An 'A Khata' denotes a property on the main municipal register; a 'B Khata' indicates a property recorded but not fully regularised. The distinction affects loans and resale.
